Westfield pays nothing as London taxpayers subsidise cycle hire

Commenting on the news - revealed in a Freedom Of Information request - that the Westfield shopping centre in Stratford has contributed nothing to the cost of cycle hire stations in Shepherd's Bush, Caroline Pidgeon said:

Westfield have had a year of favourable publicity from the bike hire scheme, yet incredibly have not yet coughed up a penny towards supporting it.

Olympic cycling legacy must be a bold, permanent change

Caroline Pidgeon, Leader of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group, commenting on the Mayor’s proposals for London’s Olympic cycling legacy, said:

“A two day world class festival of cycling next year is clearly welcome and will be a great addition to Skyride.

“However the Mayor has merely re-announced existing plans. Incredibly the proposed event will now also be smaller than what was first proposed back in January.

“Today’s rehashed proposals expose the Mayor’s lack of vision. A real cycling legacy for the capital must include far more than just a two day festival.

Lewisham junction plan needs to go back to the drawing board

Speaking to the South London Press about Transport for London's newly published plans for a new layout at the dangerous Courthill Road junction in Lewisham, Caroline Pidgeon said:

“I hope TfL goes back to the drawing board on this.

“All we wanted was a proper push-button pedestrian crossing but this is too complicated and is a missed opportunity.”

Transport issues in Earl's Court

Caroline Pidgeon AM joined local Cllr Linda Wade in Earl’s Court on Tuesday 24th July to look at a wide range of concerns in the area. From the London Underground works yard near Earl’s Court Station, to the proposed huge redevelopment of the Exhibition Centre and the massive impact this will have on Earl’s Court Underground Station and local roads.

“Cllr Linda Wade has such great knowledge of the area and quite rightly raises the issues of capacity on the local roads and station as a result of the huge proposed redevelopment. I will continue to work with Cllr Linda Wade and the local Lib Dems to help on these issues” commented Caroline.
