Campaigning in Ealing

Caroline Pidgeon AM joined Ealing councillor Jon Ball and local members and council candidates, door knocking in Ealing Common ward on Saturday 26th April.

The team spoke to lots of residents and picked up huge concerns regarding the plans for Ealing Broadway station.

"It was great to meet so many local people and to get such good feedback about Cllr Jon Ball and his local team including Jennifer Hollis and Craig O'Donnell, who work so hard for Ealing Common" commented Caroline.

Lib Dem success on Picadilly line for Turnham Green

After a lengthy campaign by Ealing Liberal Democrats and Caroline Pidgeon, the Mayor has announced at December's Mayor’s Question Time that Piccadilly line trains will stop properly at Turnham Green once modernisation work is complete. Although this may be a number of years off, he has made a commitment that tubes will stop all night when the Piccadilly line becomes part of the “Night Tube” in 2015.

Campaigning in Ealing

On Tuesday 4th June Caroline Pidgeon AM joined local campaigners and Councillors Jon Ball and Gary Malcolm on a visit to Ealing to look at a number of issues affecting the Borough and local residents.

Ealing Broadway
Caroline and the team had a look around Ealing Broadway and heard from campaigner Tony Miller about the poor interchange planned with the long awaited Crossrail.

“It seems a missed opportunity if the station is not reconfigured to make it a model interchange between Crossrail, national rail, and the tube as well as with cycling and buses” commented Caroline.

Caroline has written to Crossrail about these issues.

Save our London neighbourhood policing

The London Assembly today urged Mayor Boris Johnson to halt his plans to dilute police Safer Neighbourhood Teams and recklessly close police front counters across London.

The Assembly's motion calls on the Mayor to retain the existing neighbourhood policing model of a dedicated sergeant, supported by two Constables and three Police Community Support Officers, allocated to each ward in London.

Caroline Pidgeon AM, who seconded the motion, said:

“Londoners value their local police stations and the local, recognisable police teams dedicated to serving their ward. Shutting up cop shops to public access and destroying the local policing model risks setting policing back more than a decade and separating the police from their communities.”

Mayor should admit he is decimating Safer Neigbourhood Teams

Caroline Pidgeon AM, leader of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group, commenting on the Mayor’s response today to her questions about the future of Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNTs) across London, where he failed to recognise that there would be a reduction in dedicated police officers for each safer neighbourhood team, said:

“The Mayor should come clean with Londoners and admit that he is decimating the current and successful model for safer neighbourhood teams.

Housing regeneration in Ealing

Caroline Pidgeon AM visited South Action to visit the London and Quadrant and Ealing Council housing regeneration scheme at Acton Gardens.

"It was really good to hear how tenants and leaseholders are fully involved in the regeneration and how the phases will help residents move to the new home smoothly" commented Caroline.

Turnham Green residents need more Piccadilly trains

Caroline Pidgeon has pressed the Mayor once again to ensure local residents have their voice heard to communicate how valuable it would be for more Piccadilly Line trains to stop at Turnham Green.

Ealing Lib Dem Councillor Gary Malcolm said: "The team of Liberal Democrat councillors in Southfield have been working hard with Caroline Pidgeon to get a consultation so that City Hall and the Mayor can hear the residents' need for Piccadilly Line tubes to stop at Turnham Green station. It may be a slow process but we will not give up until it happens!"

Key concerns in Hanwell

Caroline joined local Lib Dem Cllr Nigel Bakhai to look at problems with Hanwell Station next to his ward in Ealing.

The station has no services on Sundays, has no step free access like so many and it is not clear what improvements will be made when Crossrail comes along. Furthermore, the entrance to the station from Station Approach is closed off making it inconvenient for residents in Cllr Bakhai’s ward to access the station.

Caroline also looked at the dangerous junction with Church Road, which she has already raised with TfL and will do again. Pedestrians have no safe crossing point at this junction.

Campaigning at Ealing Broadway

Caroline joined local Cllr Harvey Rose and a huge team of Lib Dem activists including Tony Miller on a walkabout in Ealing Broadway on Monday.

The team had a wonderful reception from local residents and passengers.

Compensation is overdue for Ealing residents after riots

Caroline Pidgeon joined Brian Paddick and local Lib Dem London Assembly candidate Shas Sheehan on a visit to Ealing to meet businesses and residents affected by the riots.

"It is not acceptable that over 6 months on people have still not received compensation" commented Caroline.
