Cycle hire scheme needs a serious expansion
On the tenth anniversary of the cycle hire scheme, Caroline Pidgeon pointed to the gaps in its coverage - especially in south-east London, and especially at a time when so many people want to cycle rather than use buses or trains.
“The bold expansion of the scheme that took place in the early years of the scheme has halted. It is time that much more ambition was shown.
Mayor must now deliver on the Bakerloo Line extension
Caroline Pidgeon, Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member, has expressed her full support for the extension of the Bakerloo Line.
Setting out her reasons for backing the extension in a detailed submission to TfL’s consultation, Caroline Pidgeon said:
“South East London is at present poorly served by the Underground network. The extension is vital for regeneration in Southwark and Lewisham and for opening up new employment opportunities for thousands of people.
Campaigning in Haringey and Bermondsey
Caroline had two excellent campaigning trips to support fantastic Lib Dem General Election candidates over the first weekend of November: firstly in Haringey with Dawn Barnes and then in Bermondsey with Humaira Ali.

Euro election campaigning in Dulwich
Caroline had a great day on the doorstep in Dulwich with Lib Dem MEP candidates Irina von Wiese, Hussain Khan and Rabina Khan, and Lib Dem activists from around London.
Campaigning for the Euro elections in Southwark and Camden
Caroline joined our MEP candidates Luisa Porritt and Dinesh Dhamiija in Camden on Friday, canvassing for the European Parliament election on 23rd May.
And on Saturday she joined her local Lib Dem campaigners in East Dulwich, talking to voters in the street. It was very clear that local residents want an Exit from Brexit.
Mayor of London’s decision to scrap RV1 will not be forgotten
Caroline Pidgeon, Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member, commenting on the decision confirmed by the Mayor to totally scrap the RV1 bus service from 15th June 2019, said:
“In the same week as the start of the Ultra Low Emission Zone the Mayor has made the decision to cut one of the few zero-emission bus routes in London, serving an area with some of the worst air pollution in the capital. The total lack of joined up thinking is staggering.
Rising passenger numbers expose the foolishness of scrapping the RV1 bus route
New figures obtained from Transport for London reveal that passenger numbers for the RV1 bus route increased during the Summer and Autumn this year, undermining TfL’s justification for scrapping the bus route.
The figures have been obtained by Caroline Pidgeon, the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member and the chair of the London Assembly Transport Committee.

The fight to save the RV1 bus route carries on
Caroline Pidgeon, Liberal Democrat Londonwide Assembly Member, has responded to Transport for London’s Central London Bus Service Review, with a very clear message that the RV1 bus route should be saved.
Responding to the consultation, Caroline highlighted that TfL’s own figures show passenger usage has actually increased on the bus route between April and August of this year (August's are the most recent figures that TfL were able to produce).
