Campaigning in Sutton

Caroline had a great day in Sutton out campaigning with Amna Ahmed and the local Lib Dem team - followed by the Sutton Lib Dems' excellent annual dinner!

Mayor’s plans for London transport network may not be what they seem

Caroline Pidgeon, Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member, commenting on Transport for London’s new Business Plan, said:

“There is much in this new Business Plan that is very welcome, such as the commitment to continued upgrades to the Tube, the extension of the Bakerloo Line and a pedestrian and cycle bridge linking Rotherhithe to Canary Wharf.

“The reduction on TfL’s reliance on expensive agency staff is certainly long overdue. Tackling this is something I long urged TfL to address.”

TfL should take over Southern Rail

As the Southern Rail situation gets worse and worse for passengers, Caroline Pidgeon told the SWLondoner website that both management and unions have failed and a change in control is needed:

The dispute over conductor-free trains has reached a point where it does not matter what assurances Southern offer because the RMT union is now striking for the sake of it.

I am hugely concerned about the additional stress this is having on London.

You see the stress on passengers’ faces and it’s not good enough.

Mayor accepts that Sutton’s “appalling” lack of public transport is a strong case for the Tramlink extension

At City Hall the new Mayor of London was grilled by the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member Caroline Pidgeon over his level of support for extending Tramlink to Sutton.

In responding to her questions the Mayor stated he backed the scheme and was ‘keen to get Tramlink extended.” He also admitted that Sutton has an “appalling” lack of public transport and that for too long transport connections to Sutton have been neglected.
