The case against Heathrow expansion is as strong as when Theresa May and David Cameron made it

Caroline Pidgeon, Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member, commenting on the Government’s intention to support a third Heathrow runway, said:

"After an incredibly expensive lobbying campaign the Government has ‎foolishly accepted the myth that what is good for the overseas owners of Heathrow is also good for the UK economy.

"The reality is that airports such as Luton and Stansted have spare capacity. And in time HS2 will also allow easy access ‎to Birmingham airport for many Londoners.

Transport policy is too important to be left just to men

Caroline writes for the Womanthology website on the changing face of transport policy and the importance of seeing the world from the viewpoint of women as well as men.

When most people think of the transport industry their immediate image is of a very male dominated world. From train drivers and leaders of their unions through to the senior management of train companies, the common factor is male dominance.

Caroline Pidgeon welcomes adoption of One Hour Bus Ticket

Commenting on the introduction of a one hour "Hopper" bus ticket starting from Monday 12th September, Caroline Pidgeon, Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member said:

"I have been campaigning for a One Hour Bus Ticket for the best part of a decade in London so very much welcome its final introduction from next week. Imitation sometimes is the greatest form of flattery.

TfL should take over Southern Rail

As the Southern Rail situation gets worse and worse for passengers, Caroline Pidgeon told the SWLondoner website that both management and unions have failed and a change in control is needed:

The dispute over conductor-free trains has reached a point where it does not matter what assurances Southern offer because the RMT union is now striking for the sake of it.

I am hugely concerned about the additional stress this is having on London.

You see the stress on passengers’ faces and it’s not good enough.

Southern Rail timetable reductions are an act of desperation

Caroline Pidgeon has expressed passengers' disappointment and frustration with Southern Rail's recent service, in a letter to the franchise's parent company Govia:

"[The decision to reduce train frequencies is an] act of desperation which fails to address the underlying reasons of why your current (full) service cannot be maintained to a reasonable level.

“Your service has also impacted and caused economic harm for many London businesses as well.”

Honesty over fares and investment needed in London’s transport has never been more important

Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member Caroline Pidgeon, commenting on the Mayor’s announcement over his future plans for transport fares, said:

“Sadiq Khan’s manifesto specifically said that Londoners won’t pay a penny more for their travel in 2020 than they do today. There were no ifs, or buts, in that statement.

“The reality is that many Londoners will see their travelcards rise over the next few years. What we have found out today feels like a very early broken promise from London’s new Mayor.

One Hour Bus Ticket is welcome - now let's see half price early fares

Commenting on the Mayor's announcement confirming the introduction of a 'one hour bus ticket', Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member Caroline Pidgeon said:

"The Liberal Democrats have been campaigning for a One Hour Bus Ticket for the best part of a decade in London. I welcome our policy being adopted by London's new mayor and hope that he will go further and also implement our policy for half price travel for journeys on the transport network before 7.30am."

11 crossings are still unsafe for blind and partially sighted people

Caroline Pidgeon has criticised the Mayor and Transport for London over their failure to complete the installation of safety features for blind and partially sighted people at all London's pedestrian crossings.

Eleven crossings, including in busy central areas in Westminster, are still unsafe.
