Caroline Pidgeon has been one of the Liberal Democrat Councillors in Newington Ward, Walworth since May 1998. She was the Liberal Democrat Regeneration and Environment spokesperson on Southwark Council from 1998 to 2000, followed by two years as Chief Whip. From May 2002 until May 2004 she was Deputy Leader of Southwark Council. In December 2004 she became Executive Member for Education, and since May 2006 has taken on the expanded portfolio of Executive Member for Children’s Services and Education, as well as being Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group. In May 2008 Caroline was elected to the London Assembly.
In addition to work at the Town Hall, Caroline was a Director of Southwark Energy Agency from 1998 until 2001, a board member of Aylesbury New Deal for Communities 2002 to 2004 and is a member of Southwark Friends of the Earth. She has been a Board Member of Lambeth and Southwark Housing Association since May 2002 and a Trustee of the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education since 2005.
Caroline moved to Southwark after graduating from the University of Wales Aberystwyth in 1994. She has worked in local government and the health service for over a decade.
Caroline was the Parliamentary Candidate for Dulwich and West Norwood constituency in the 2001 General Election and is now the Parliamentary Spokesperson for Vauxhall.
Outside of work Caroline enjoys going to the cinema, walking and modern art. She lives in Camberwell with her husband, Paul.
