Mayor needs to face up to past mistakes over cycle safety

Commenting on the Mayor’s response to questions from herself and other Assembly Members relating to cycle safety, Caroline Pidgeon AM, Leader of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group, said:

It is bitterly disappointing that after an hour of questioning the Mayor cannot simply admit that serious mistakes have been made in the past over the design of the Barclays Cycle Superhighways, especially Cycle Superhighway 2.

It is vital that within months the Mayor and TfL must correct the appalling mistakes that were made in the design of large sections of the Barclays Cycle Superhighway Two.

Real improvements also need to made to London’s most dangerous junctions. Londoners can not wait another 18 months for works to take place.

The Mayor must also bring forward plans to get most, if not all HGVs off our roads for a few hours each day, when the vast majority of cyclists and other people are trying to travel.
