Will the Mayor meet his pledge to finally introduce a weekly Oyster cap?

Ahead of the Mayor of London’s expected fare announcement for transport services in London for 2015, Caroline Pidgeon AM, Leader of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group, has called on the Mayor to honour his commitment to finally introduce a weekly cap on Oyster pay as you go fares in 2015.

Explaining why a weekly cap is so important, Caroline Pidgeon said:

“If you use contactless payment there is a weekly cap on your fares, but not if you use Oyster pay as you go. That is totally unfair and indefensible.

“Contactless payment is a useful form of payment for some people, but people who use Oyster pay as you go should be never be penalised, especially as some people without access to a bank account have to use Oyster.

“Over 15 months ago the Mayor made a specific commitment that a weekly cap on Oyster pay as you go would start from 2015. It is time that the Mayor finally honoured that commitment and ensured that the cheapest fares truly can be obtained using Oyster.”
