TfL’s plans will not keep up with increased demand for bus services in London

Caroline Pidgeon AM, Leader of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group, commenting on TfL’s Business Plan published today, which sets out what will be delivered to support the Mayor’s Transport Strategy until 2020/2021, said:

“We should never forget that every day passengers make twice as many bus trips as by the Tube.”

“Bus ridership figures have soared since 2000 and are set to increase for many more years, in large part due to London’s rapidly growing population.

“The daily reality for bus passengers is serious overcrowding, seven days a week. On most bus routes the opportunity to find a seat is too often a rare occurrence.”

“While today’s announcement of 500 extra buses is a step in the right direction, I fear the current plans will not keep up with the increased demand across the capital.”
