Making the South Circular safer for pedestrians

Last July saw a 13 year-old schoolgirl killed on Brownhill Road, which is part of the South Circular that runs through Catford.

Local residents have long faced difficulty crossing at many parts of this road and following the pedestrian death last Summer local residents have been campaigning hard for safer crossings.

Caroline and Julia Fletcher, the Liberal Democrat Parliametary candidate for Lewisham East, recently visited Catford to see the problems faced by pedestrians. They are both actively supporting local campaigners who wish to see the introduction of pedestrian phased lights at the junction of Brownhill Road and Torridon Road, as well as improvements to increase the visibility and safety of the zebra crossing between this junction and Mountsfield Park.
