Caroline Pidgeon, Leader of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group, commenting on the Home Secretary’s decision to not grant permission for the use of water cannon in mainland Britain, said:
“After carefully examining the evidence the Home Secretary has made a wise decision.
“Water cannon run the risk of innocent people being injured and would certainly undermine policing by public consent.
“The Mayor of London very foolishly purchased a number of water cannon despite the Met having no authority to use them. The Mayor must now apologise to London taxpayers for his foolish and costly actions.”
