At the eleventh hour the Mayor may be waking up to the huge potential to build more homes

Caroline Pidgeon, Leader of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group, commenting on today’s announcement by Transport for London (TfL) that it is set to release more than 300 acres of TfL land to help create more than 10,000 new homes across London, said:

“It seems that at the eleventh hour in his time at City Hall the Mayor is finally waking up to the huge potential to build more homes on land owned by the public sector across London.

“TfL are doing the right thing in releasing some surplus land for housing, although it is vital that many of the homes are genuinely affordable. Sadly this is far from clear at the moment.

“And while welcoming these modest steps being taken forward by TfL big questions remain over the wasted opportunities for further housing that the Mayor has squandered following the disposal of huge amounts of land and buildings owned by the fire service and especially the Metropolitan Police Service.”
