Uber ridesharing raises safety concerns

Writing to the Transport Commissioner, Caroline Pidgeon has expressed concerns over Uber's launch of a ridesharing scheme in London:

I am writing to express my serious concern over the prospect of Uber launching its 'Pool' or 'Pop' ridesharing model in London. Uber has made its intention to launch this model very clear. While I recognise that ridesharing schemes can benefit the environment and reduce congestion, there is a huge safety issue if the model allows unlicensed drivers to share lifts, particularly if it is for financial reward.

Uber Pool/Pop has been banned in a large number of countries and cities. I would urge TfL to urgently review Uber's license if they introduce this model in London.
