Visiting London’s Air Ambulance

Caroline Pidgeon visited London’sAir Ambulance at The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel with the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Candidate Adrian Hyyrylainen-Trett.

They met with Chief Executive Officer Graham Hodgkin who showed them around and talked them through the work of London’s Air Ambulance. London’s Air Ambulance is a charity that provides a vital service for London. The charity delivers an advanced trauma team to critically injured people across London 24/7, with helicopters running in daylight hours and rapid response cars taking over at night and in adverse weather conditions.

The team, which at all times includes an advanced trauma doctor and paramedic, performs advanced medical interventions, normally only found in the hospital emergency department, in time critical, life threatening situations. They normally deal with around five incidents a day, and in 2015 the charity treated 1826 patients.

Caroline Pidgeon said, “it was amazing to hear first hand the vital work London’s Air Ambulance carries out in and around London, and great to see one of their helicopters in action. It is hugely impressive that the charity has treated over 34,000 patients since its inception in 1989 and continues to save the lives of Londoners on a daily basis. I think the charity is a great one for Londoners to support.”
