Delivery of Crossrail 2 must not be held up by any more dithering

Caroline Pidgeon, Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member, commenting on the joint statement on Crossrail 2 from the Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling MP, and the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said:

“We should be encouraged that the Mayor of London and the Secretary of State for London are at long last even talking together about how to take Crossrail 2 forward.

“Commuters from Winchester through to Cambridge should not pay the price of the strained relations that exist between the current Secretary of State for Transport and the Mayor of London.”

“Crossrail 2 is a vital infrastructure project that will benefit train users from the Solent to the Wash, not to mention many train users in south west and north east London.”

“Another vital reason for Crossrail 2 is that it will remove pressure from many Tube stations that are already seriously overcrowded. Without Crossrail 2 many Tube stations will literally buckle under excessive pressure from passengers, leaving them no choice but to introduce emergency measures such as one-way systems and regular closures.”
