Rogue landlord database is long overdue

Caroline Pidgeon, Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member, commenting on the launch of a public online database to protect people privately renting in London by publishing details of landlords and lettings agents who have been successfully prosecuted or have faced civil enforcement action of housing offences, said:

“There is a real need for such a database to allow tenants to check prospective landlords or lettings agents. I look forward to this database quickly being expanded to cover rogue landlords in all London Boroughs.

“While most landlords are responsible people, sadly an element are not and firm action must be taken to tackle them. Basic standards must be upheld for the two million people in London who now live in private rented accommodation.

“My own research shows just how desperately people are exploited by some landlords in every part of London.”
