Fighting knife crime must include more youth workers in A&E

Caroline Pidgeon, Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member, commenting on the announcement that that the Mayor is allocating an extra £15 million next year to boost resources in tackling knife crime, said:

“This is a welcome decision.

“The steep rise in knife crime over the last few years must be reversed.

“We should never forget that it is estimated that for every young person that is murdered another 20 are admitted to hospital with knife crimes.

“Turning this situation must involve a dedicated youth worker, focusing on intervention and support for every knife victim, being placed in far more A&E departments across London.”
