Southwark police urged to retain Safer Neighbourhood Teams

Caroline Pidgeon, Leader of the Liberal Democrats on the Greater London Assembly, has joined Lib Dem councillors have met with Southwark police chiefs to urge them to retain the Safer Neighbourhood Teams in their ward, as Police bosses are reviewing the way they provide local services. Councillors Cathy Bowman from Walworth, Eliza Mann from Bermondsey, and Robin Crookshank Hilton from Dulwich, joined Caroline and local residents to meet the Met’s senior Commander in charge of Neighbourhood Policing, Steve Rodhouse.

Walworth Lib Dem, Councillor Bowman said, “Walworth residents really value the safer neighbourhood teams. Having a dedicated group of officers who really know the patch is very important in reducing crime and the fear of crime.”

Dulwich Lib Dem Councillor Crookshank Hilton said, “We really must ensure that the safer neighbourhood teams are kept intact. There are a number of local crime issues that need to be kept under control. We need officers who have got their ear to the ground and who people can get hold of quickly.”

Cllr Robin Crookshank Hilton recently helped to secure funding for security gates in Herne Hill, to reduce the levels of anti social behaviour in a car park behind the shops.
