8 million passengers overcharged on Oyster - every month

Following on from extensive work by Caroline Pidgeon on Oyster overcharging, London Travelwatch have now looked at the issue and discovered that 8 million passengers are overcharged every month.

The Evening Standard covers the story here, and discussed the situation with Caroline:

Caroline Pidgeon, leader of the Lib-Dem London Assembly group, said with increasing numbers of passengers there is the "potential" for overcharging to be worse this year than last.

She blamed the problems on card readers not accepting cards properly. At mainline stations late at night, passengers are sometimes directed to an open side gate - rather than through the barriers - where there is no card reader and the passenger is unable to swipe-out.
