The Olympics - a chance to embrace imaginative flexible working

Writing for the London Loves Business website, Caroline Pidgeon points to the opportunities the Olympics provide for fresh thinking about flexible working - which could have a lasting impact on making London a better place to live and work.

Caroline says:

Across London there are hundreds of thousands of people who have yet to discover that it’s often possible get to work by using a different form of public transport. Many of us are surprisingly conservative in our transport habits. There are still large numbers of people living or working in London who have yet to discover the benefits of the bike hire scheme, river transport, or the new transport links opened in recent years such as the extended London Overground.

These changes should not just be a temporary development this summer.

Changes in working practices should be actively encouraged by early bird discounted fares to help smooth demand on the tube, DLR and London Overground. And the introduction of a One-hour bus ticket would encourage many people to start using the bus for the first time - and help passengers save money.
