Building a pedestrian and cycle bridge between Rotherhithe to Canary Wharf and extending the cycle hire scheme out to Rotherhithe are issues now firmly in the new Mayor’s in-tray, following questions being raised at the first Mayor’s Question Time for Sadiq Khan by the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member Caroline Pidgeon.
Caroline Pidgeon, Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member, commenting on Sadiq Khan’s announcement today declaring his support for the Garden Bridge said:
"Today’s decision is highly disappointing.
"Instead of tinkering with minor changes from the Garden Bridge Trust the Mayor should be seeking to recoup every penny of Transport for London funding that has been allocated to this highly controversial project.
"The Mayor should also be refusing to underwrite the annual maintenance costs of this project.
Commenting on the Mayor's announcement confirming the introduction of a 'one hour bus ticket', Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member Caroline Pidgeon said:
"The Liberal Democrats have been campaigning for a One Hour Bus Ticket for the best part of a decade in London. I welcome our policy being adopted by London's new mayor and hope that he will go further and also implement our policy for half price travel for journeys on the transport network before 7.30am."
Speaking as the Mayoral and London Assembly results were announced on 6th May, Caroline Pidgeon said:
"I am happy to be reelected to the Assembly and encouraged by the Mayoral result as we know that it will take time to rebuild the party. These are our first steps back and I am happy to have substantially increased the Party's total number of votes in London.
