Don't compromise the Overground's safety and success with staff cuts

Caroline Pidgeon has criticised plans to leave West Brompton, Highbury and Islington, Blackhorse Road and Canada Water Overground stations unstaffed during the day.

Caroline said:

“Having staff present at every London Overground station, from the first to last train, is central to its high level of service and success.

“The policy ensures the stations are safe and accessible for everyone, including disabled people who can use a ‘turn up and go’ service.

Network Rail and TfL need to explain further disruption for Gospel Oak-Barking passengers

As Transport for London announced that the London Overground line between Gospel Oak and Barking will now reopen to passengers on Monday 27 February, but that the installation of all of the overhead wires has not been completed on time and more work is required, Caroline Pidgeon, Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member, criticised the way the work has been executed and communicated:

“The fault for these delays rests with some appalling errors made by Network Rail, who have many questions to now answer.

Out campaigning in Islington with Terry Stacey

Caroline Pidgeon went out campaigning in Islington with the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Candidate for the North East constituency, Terry Stacey. They campaigned on Caroline’s Half Price Fares before Half Past Seven and to save the 277 bus route from being cut before it reaches Highbury and Islington – a policy which local residents do not want.

Keeping Caledonian Road tube station open is a victory for local people

Caroline Pidgeon, Liberal Democrat London Assembly transport spokesperson, commenting on Transport for London’s confirmation today that plans to refurbish Caledonian Road tube station will definitely not lead to the closure of the station, said:

“It is great news that Transport for London have fully reviewed their plans and can now confirm that it is possible to keep Caledonian Road station open whilst refurbishing its lifts one at a time.

People power has been successful in getting Caledonian Road closure plans dropped

Caroline Pidgeon AM, Leader of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group, commenting on Transport for London’s withdrawal of controversial plans to close Caledonian Road tube station for eight months to replace the two lifts, said:

TfL start to show sense on Caledonian Road lifts but could do better

Caroline Pidgeon, the Liberal Democrat London Assembly transport spokesperson, commenting on the decision by Transport for London to review its work programme and to now delay the closure date of Caledonian Road tube station to the 14th March so as not to coincide with the closure of nearby Tufnell Park station, which is due to re-open on Monday 7th March. said:

Campaign against closure of Caledonian Road Tube Station

Caroline Pidgeon has been supporting the campaign to stop Caledonian Road station closing for eight months next year. Closing the station would have a serious negative impact on local residents and businesses. It would also make it harder for wheelchair users living in the area to access the tube network. She has been:

  • Making inquiries with TfL about why the lifts need to be refurbished, the reasons for why TfL says the station has to close and what the costs would be to do the work in stages

Archway Gyratory changes

Caroline Pidgeon AM visited Archway on Tuesday 20th October to see first hand the proposed changes to the area being developed by TfL with Islington Council. Caroline met with residents and TfL engineers to discuss the plans and hear concerns.

One of the major issues is the location of 12 bus stands on the main road - as a result of Islington Council selling off a piece of land where the buses currently wait between journeys.

Mayor must now come clean over plans for Night Buses

Caroline Pidgeon AM, Liberal Democrat London Assembly transport spokesperson, commenting on the announcement that the launch of the Night Tube has been deferred, said:

"This is a big climb down for the Mayor. His retreat is entirely due to his error in setting a specific start date before all the staffing arrangements and other issues had been settled.

"By pushing for a set start date the Mayor strengthened the union’s negotiating position.
