Caroline Pidgeon, Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member, commenting on the Mayor’s reply to her questioning about the need for a London Underground station at the Bricklayer’s Arms as part of the Bakerloo Line extension, said:
Caroline spent an afternoon meeting north Bermondsey residents with local councillors Eliza Mann, Hamish McCallum and Anood al-Samerai.
Caroline joined more than 200 people at a rally calling for a new Tube station at the Bricklayer’s Arms as part of the Bakerloo Line extension. Speaking at the rally Caroline gave her full backing for the new station, highlighting the immense benefits it would bring locally.
Caroline Pidgeon AM, Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member, has welcomed the news that a consultation is now underway on a dedicated pedestrian and cycling route across the Thames linking Rotherhithe to Canary Wharf.
Caroline Pidgeon has a long record of backing a pedestrian and cycling bridge and during the 2016 mayoral elections, Sadiq Khan even admitted at the London Cycling Campaign hustings that he had stolen the idea from Caroline.
Caroline Pidgeon said:
Assurances that the much needed pedestrian and cycle bridge between Rotherhithe to Canary Wharf is on schedule and could be open to the public by 2020 or 2021 were obtained by Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member Caroline Pidgeon, at August's Mayor’s Question Time.
Caroline Pidgeon and Sir Simon Hughes have delivered a petition organised by local Liberal Democrats to Transport for London, calling for the Bakerloo line extension to include a station at Bricklayers' Arms.
Current plans will extend the line along Old Kent Road, but with no station between Elephant and Dunton Road - missing an opportunity to serve the Tower Bridge Road area.
Caroline Pidgeon has criticised plans to leave West Brompton, Highbury and Islington, Blackhorse Road and Canada Water Overground stations unstaffed during the day.
Caroline said:
“Having staff present at every London Overground station, from the first to last train, is central to its high level of service and success.
“The policy ensures the stations are safe and accessible for everyone, including disabled people who can use a ‘turn up and go’ service.
Tube delays caused by overcrowding have soared in the last five years, new figures obtained by Caroline Pidgeon, Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member have revealed.
Caroline Pidgeon, commenting on the figures she obtained from the Mayor, said:
South London train passengers have suffered enough and should not face further delays to access improvements to train stations, is the message that Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member Caroline Pidgeon has sent to Chris Grayling, Secretary of State for Transport.
Just before Christmas and so far unnoticed by most people the Government finally admitted that they were delaying the installation of lifts and other vital access improvements to 26 train stations across England and Wales, seven of them in south London alone.
Caroline Pidgeon, Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member, commenting on Transport for London’s new Business Plan, said:
“There is much in this new Business Plan that is very welcome, such as the commitment to continued upgrades to the Tube, the extension of the Bakerloo Line and a pedestrian and cycle bridge linking Rotherhithe to Canary Wharf.
“The reduction on TfL’s reliance on expensive agency staff is certainly long overdue. Tackling this is something I long urged TfL to address.”
