New trains for the Tube

On Tuesday 23rd September Caroline went to visit the new trains planned for the Metropolitan, Circle, Hammersmith & City and District lines at an exhibition at Euston Gardens. The new trains are in production and will be undergoing testing next year. The timetable for their introduction is as follows:

2010 Start to arrive on Metropolitan Line
2011 Start to arrive on Circle and Hammersmith & City Lines
2013 Start to arrive on District Line

“I was very impressed to look around a model of the new trains with air conditioning, wider doors and walkways and connected carriages that you can walk through - giving more space. I was also pleased that the new trains will be very accessible for people with disabilities or families with buggies or shopping. The only down side is that it will be a number of years before the existing trains are fully replaced with these new, modern carriages with increased space for passengers” commented Caroline Pidgeon, Lib Dem London Transport Spokesperson.
