Caroline Pidgeon AM, Leader of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group, commenting on Transport for London’s withdrawal of controversial plans to close Caledonian Road tube station for eight months to replace the two lifts, said:
“This U-turn by TfL is a great victory for people power. I congratulate Nigel Scott and the organisers of this excellent campaign and everyone who got behind it.
“It was a privilege to be able to present the huge petition against the closure of this station to the Mayor of London.”
“It is only right that TfL must now consider alternative ways of repairing the 30-year lifts.
“Passenger numbers have greatly increased at this station so closing it for such a long period of time would have had a massive impact on the ever increasing number of people who live and work in the area.”
