Caroline Pidgeon, Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member, has expressed her full support for the extension of the Bakerloo Line.
Setting out her reasons for backing the extension in a detailed submission to TfL’s consultation, Caroline Pidgeon said:
“South East London is at present poorly served by the Underground network. The extension is vital for regeneration in Southwark and Lewisham and for opening up new employment opportunities for thousands of people.
“It will play a critical role in reducing car journeys, helping to reduce air pollution and congestion.
“Crucially it is a vital infrastructure project that will help support the steep growth in the working age population that is taking place in many parts of Southwark and Lewisham.
“This consultation by TfL is welcome, but the real test is whether Sadiq Khan will deliver on taking it forward.
Caroline Pidgeon’s consultation response also sets out a number of steps TfL must undertake to minimise disruption for local residents and businesses during the construction phase.
