Gatwick expansion proposals are unviable and unsustainable

Lib Dem London Assembly members Caroline Pidgeon and Hina Bokhari have formally responded to Gatwick Airport's consultation on expansion plans.

Caroline and Hina said:

Given we are in the midst of an ongoing climate emergency, the need to create and utilise more environmentally friendly modes of transport, domestically and internationally, has never been more important. That, coupled with the uncertainty in relation to the demand for air travel post-Covid, makes any plans to expand the operation at any airport across London and the South East, unviable and unsustainable. The Liberal Democrat Group on the London Assembly does not support Gatwick's expansion plans and has urged them to withdraw them.
