Misogyny should be made a hate crime

Caroline Pidgeon spoke in the London Assembly in support of a motion requesting the Mayor to strengthen London's institutional response to violence against women and girls, and to write to the Home Secretary to call for a register of domestic abusers, and for misogyny to be made a hate crime.

Caroline said:

"The Mayor's campaign, Have a Word, is a really welcome initiative to start to tackle this and call out behaviour and help to educate. But it is just a start.

I fully support having a public health response to Violence Against Women and Girls, but I really believe it's time that misogyny was made a hate crime, if we are then going to be able to tackle this unacceptable creep in our society, diminishing progress that has been made on women's equality over many years."
