Met Commissioner should follow the Police Federation head and accept that problems are institutional

Responding to the news that the head of the Police Federation of England and Wales has said the Met is institutionally racist, misogynistic and homophobic, Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member and Police and Crime Spokesperson Caroline Pidgeon AM said:

“It is good to see that more people within the police are willing to describe the problems faced by the Met as they are – institutional.

“Accepting this fact is key in changing the culture of the Met for the better and helping to transform our police service that all Londoners can trust.

“It is clear the problem in the Met is not a case of a bad few apples, but symptomatic of a much wider problem.

“It is a big step for the head of the Police Federation to have said these words. It would be beneficial if those at the top of the Met were willing to demonstrate the same understanding as Steve Hartshorn has to help us move forward together.”
