King's Cross junction plans are a missed opportunity for pedestrians and cyclists

Caroline Pidgeon has written to Transport for London in response to their plans for the junction of King's Cross Road and Pentonville Road – currently a dangerous and hostile junction for cyclists and pedestrians.

Caroline welcomed TfL's attention to the junction, but highlighted the shortcomings in the plans, which could have achieved much more to make a safe and pleasant environment.

"The current proposals are only a minor set of improvements to one of the simpler junctions. What we actually need is a plan for the whole area to be safer and better. ...

As highlighted by the London Cycling Campaign, this scheme seems to prioritise motor traffic speeds... The scheme will likely reduce collisions, but it is a missed opportunity to eliminate road danger here by making a better 'place' and delivering comfortable walking and cycling opportunities in all directions."
