Met Commissioner has made a good start, but huge work remains to be done

Commenting on the anniversary of Sir Mark Rowley's appointment as the Met Police Commissioner, Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member and Police & Crime Spokesperson Caroline Pidgeon AM said:

“This year has been a tough year for the Met in light of the release of the Baroness Casey Review and its clear conclusions of institutional sexism, racism, and homophobia alongside bullying.

“Sir Mark has made a good start towards addressing these serious issues, but there is still a huge amount of work to be done. This is the equivalent of turning around an oil tanker.

“The UK Conservative Government now needs to step up and ensure that the Met has the resources it needs to undertake the transformation that is required and to ensure the police service can focus on getting the basics of community policing right.

“Continuing to engage directly with communities across London is absolutely essential if the Met is to regain the trust and confidence of Londoners.”
