Mayor and TfL need to solve South Woodford flooding

London Assembly member Caroline Pidgeon has joined local Lib Dem councillors in the fight to sort out the problem of flooding in the underpass below the A406 at Maybank Rd/Mulberry Way in South Woodford.

Every time there is heavy rain the underpass floods meaning local people have to wade through the water, or risk their safety by crossing the main roads at Charlie Brown’s roundabout.

After pressure from local councillors and residents, TfL have installed new drains and pumps in the underpass. But now it has been revealed that the drains are filling with clean water, probably from an underground spring, and the pumps can’t cope.

"Transport for London has got to come up with a long term solution to this terrible flooding. I will question the Mayor of London on his commitment to sort out this problem as well as for the much needed pedestrian crossings and improved signals at Charlie Brown's roundabout" commented Lib Dem Leader on the London Assembly, Caroline Pidgeon AM.

Roding ward councillor Gwyneth Deakins (seen here with Caroline on a recent visit to the area) added: "It’s completely unacceptable that local people continually have to struggle through this flood on their journey. The underpass is a vital link between homes, schools, shops and the Tube station. When it floods it’s especially dangerous and inconvenient for parents taking their children to school. We hope Caroline’s support will ensure we get the issue resolved."
