We need a proper consultation over the Northern Line extension

Caroline Pidgeon AM, leader of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group, is challenging the Mayor over the latest consultation for the proposed Northern Line extension to Nine Elms and Battersea.

After criticisms of last year’s consultation on the proposed extension of the Northern Line Transport for London are now running another consultation exercise until 10 August 2011. The consultation sets out four possible route options, despite the fact that Transport for London and the developers Treasury Holdings have stated that two of the four options are not feasible.

Caroline Pidgeon has now submitted a written question to the Mayor asking him to explain why the latest consultation still contains two unrealistic options.

Caroline Pidgeon commented:
“This latest consultation is fundamentally flawed. Two of the possible routes have aready been completely ruled out, so it is just misleading to include them in the latest consultation.

"TfL have already declared that option three won't work because Vauxhall station cannot cope with the extra capacity, and option four because it would not be possible to place the route under the new US embassy building.

“Putting forward totally unrealistic options, which have no chance of seeing the light of day, is misleading the public and discredits the whole consultation process.”
