Yet more delays look likely for Crossrail

Reviewing the situation with Crossrail, Caroline Pidgeon has expressed her concern that services through Central London may well still be two years away.

Caroline told City AM:

"The stark reality is that, although I hope Crossrail opens in early 2021, there are no clear assurances being provided that it will be the case.

"In fact, it is looking very likely that the central section of the line will not be open until the end of 2021, with full integration of the line being even further away."

The IOPC should not delay announcing its decision on investigating the PM

Caroline Pidgeon expressed her serious concern at the news of the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) refusing to announce before the General Election whether it will investigate allegations about a conflict of interest in Boris Johnson’s dealings with US businesswoman Jennifer Arcuri while he was Mayor.

Caroline said:

TfL should make it easier to reclaim the £400m of cash sitting on Oyster cards

The BBC reports on Transport for London's figures showing that by September 2019, the cash pile of unclaimed balances and deposits on dormant Oyster cards had reached £399m.

Caroline told the BBC:

"TfL never stops bombarding us with advertisements and information campaigns, but highlighting this cash mountain is one issue that they remain very quiet about.

An independent enquiry is needed into the Croydon tram tragedy

Caroline Pidgeon is continuing to press Transport for London to hold an independent enquiry into the 2016 tram crash in Croydon which killed 7 people and injured 62.

After the Deputy Mayor refused an enquiry, Caroline said:

“We still have a lot of questions for TfL to answer on its past record on safety issues and especially why it failed to share vital information while the investigations into the Sandilands tram crash were being undertaken.

Use the Silvertown Tunnel delay as an opportunity to rethink

As a legal wrangle between a contracting firm and Transport for London has delayed the start of the Silvertown Tunnel project, Caroline Pidgeon has called on the Mayor to use the delay as an opportunity to rethink this misguided scheme.

Caroline said:

"Both the mayor and TfL are now in the position where they have been blocked from awarding a major contract for the Silvertown road tunnel.

Broken promises on outer London bus services

Caroline Pidgeon shared the frustration of outer London residents that Transport for London's promised review of their bus services will now take five years to complete.

Caroline said:

“The Mayor and TfL have always defended cutting bus services in central London on the grounds that buses will be redeployed to outer London.

“It now seems that only part of that deal is being honoured – that of cutting bus services in central London.
